Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah has revealed the whooping amount Ghana spent on this year’s Africa Cup Of Nations(AFCON).
According to the Sports Minister, Ghana spent $44.5 million out of $6.3 million for the 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt.
Mr Isaac Asiamah made this shocking revelation in Parliament on Wednesday 24th July 2019.
The Minister further disclosed the Normalization committee has been tasked to produce a comprehensive report on the poor performance of the Senior National team in the tournament.
According to him, reforms will be made after the report is presented.
It comes after speculations that the country budgeted some $16 million for the tournament.
The Black Stars of Ghana had their worst showing at the continental competition since 2006.
Many Ghanaians have expressed anger at the refusal of the ministry to disclose the budget of the team before embarking on the trip to Egypt, where the competition was held.
Media speculations had pegged appearance fee for the players at $83,000 each.
This year’s tournament was won by Algeria after they beat Senegal at the final.
