The parent company of Ecobank Ghana, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) for the 2023 fiscal year, recorded net revenue of $ 2.01 billion. This is the per bank Group’s audited financial statements for the year 2023. This is the first time the bank’s net revenue has exceeded the $2bn mark since 2015. Profit-before-tax of ETI within the review period was $581m with profit-after-tax amounting to $407m. Growth in the Group’s profit-before-tax was primarily due to revenue growth, outpacing expense growth, which resulted in positive operating leverage. As a result, the pre-provision, pre-tax operating profit (PPOP) reached $951 million in 2023.
🚩The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has refuted claims of implementing a one percent cybersecurity levy on banking transactions, which has gone viral on social media. Dismissing these reports as false, the Central Bank emphasized that there were no plans to impose such a levy. It urged the public to disregard such misinformation and assured them of the integrity of the banking system.
🚩The EU is ready to invest more in the EU-Ghana partnership despite the prevailing difficulties confronting both sides. The Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Ghana, Irchad Razaaly, said Ghana and the EU had a shared ambition to further deepen trade relations. He, however, said that what was important was for the two parties to embrace each other in many of the areas where their interests aligned. Mr. Razaaly, who was addressing the opening of this year’s EU-Ghana partnership dialogue in Accra yesterday, said like any relationship, there was room for improvement, adding that in the face of current difficulties “our partnership is arguably stronger”.
