Hon. James Gunu says the NPP is damn richer than the state; they have stopped advocating for state funding of political parties
The Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. James Gunu, has stated that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accumulated unprecedented wealth exceeding that of the state itself.
Mr. Gunu highlighted that while in opposition, the NPP repeatedly advocated for state funding of political parties. However, since assuming power on January 7, 2017, the NPP amassed substantial wealth, leading to a shift in their stance on state funding of political parties.
He believes that currently, the NPP has even become richer than the state, hence the abandonment of their advocacy for state funding of political parties.”
His remarks were made during the media launch of a fundraising shortcode for Volta NDC on Friday, May 17, 2024.
He emphasized that for the NDC, currently in opposition and determined to reclaim power in the upcoming December 7 elections, strategic innovation and effective fundraising are crucial for a successful campaign.
Furthermore, Mr. Gunu called on NDC members and supporters to unite and contribute to the party’s cause.
He urged them to embrace the fundraising initiative as a critical tool to ensure that Volta NDC has the necessary resources to mount a robust campaign against the NPP.
“We must be strategic, innovative, and resourceful to ensure our victory in the upcoming elections,” he told the media.
