Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced a comprehensive plan to enhance Ghana’s digital economy, streamline public sector procurement, and simplify citizen services.
Speaking at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 manifesto launch, Bawumia outlined measures to create a marketplace to streamline public sector procurement, leveraging increased fiscal space from tax and expenditure management reforms.
To boost the digital economy, Bawumia pledged to:
- Abolish the E-Levy
- Remove taxes on mobile phone usage
Additionally, Bawumia announced plans to simplify citizen services by leveraging the Ghana Card. He stated that individuals who possess a Ghana Card will no longer be required to fill out forms to obtain a passport; they will only need to pay the required fee, as all necessary information will be accessible through the Ghana Card.
This move aims to reduce bureaucracy, increase efficiency, and promote a seamless citizen experience.
Bawumia’s plan has been welcomed by stakeholders, who see it as a bold move to drive digital economic growth, reduce costs, and enhance citizen convenience.
As the election season gains momentum, Bawumia’s vision for a streamlined, digital Ghana is likely to resonate with citizens eager for a more efficient and modernized public sector.
