The Volta Regional Women Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Afi Adzagbo, has entreated Queen Mothers, to take advantage of intervention programmes and policies of the government, to advance the development of their communities and especially, the women folks.
Addressing a number of Queen Mothers at a forum in the regional capital of Ho, on Friday, the Women Organizer noted that government has introduced a number of intervention programs and policies that are tailored towards women empowerment and sustainable growth.
She noted however that, the traditional rulers are not doing enough to draw the attention of government to their communities when it comes to selecting communities to benefit from these projects.
“The government is doing a lot. We have introduced the Free SHS, NABCO and other social intervention policies. But I believe there are key projects and social intervention policies/projects that are geared towards women empowerment. For example, there is Masloc, for which a substantial allocation is reserved for women. There are many more of these policies that you can take advantage of,” she noted.
“I don’t think as Queen Mothers, you’re doing enough to draw governments attention to your communities. I am therefore calling on you to lead the charge and take advantage of these policies and projects, to empower yourselves and your women folks,” she added.
The Women Organizer, in her concluding speech, however, bemoaned the level of support the people of the Volta region give the NPP, regardless of the party’s tremendous performance and readiness towards the development of the region.
She urged the Queen Mothers to be receptive to the NPP in the region and support them in bringing closer to them, government projects that would develop the region, as seen in the case of other regions.
The event was graced by the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Yao Archibald Letsa and his Deputy, Hon. Blagbodzi and some other members of the regional leadership of the party.
