The first female mayor of the Accra Metropolis Hon. Sackey has applauded Ghanaian youth and their determination to change negative narratives about societies during her dialogue with a section of Ghanaian youth at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly on 19th June 2024.
The event was to enlighten and inform the Ghanaian Youth who can benefit from the available Climate Change Fund she lobbied for.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Elizabeth Sackey stated her desire to integrate the youth in her governance by giving them slots to showcase their talents to be considered for support.
“During my participation in the COP26, I made a plea for my country and city to be considered as one of the beneficiaries of the climate change fund. I believe the youth in my country will make good use of it when given this support”, she added.
It was also stated that the climate change fund available to be distributed among Ghanaian youth is $40,000. The opportunity is available to the youth between the ages of 15-24 years old.
The current mayor of Accra is Hon. Elizabeth Sackey. She became the first female mayor of Accra in September 2021. She has a Bachelor of Science in public administration and a certificate in marketing. Before she was mayor, she served as the deputy minister for the Greater Accra Region and as a Member of Parliament.
