Comedia OB Amponsah has shared his thought on the ongoing saga of whether a Dutch passport is better than owning a PHD in Ghana.
In his submission, he likened the situation to being the Minister of Sanitation in Ghana. The name that rings a bell is Madam Cecilia Dapaah, former sanitation minister who was in the news few months ago.

I know of somebody who did his masters in UCC for close to 6 years. Not because he wanted to, but his supervisor was just a wicked lecturer.
The jubilation from some lecturers when you fail their courses is one of the strangest things I’ve seen.
Some of these lecturers would even announce to students in class that it would be difficult to pass their courses na if they doubt him, they should ask around.
I read in a New Jersey newspaper about a teacher going through mental distress because his students kept failing his class. He felt he wasn’t doing enough, and quit.
Students of UG choosing a Dutch passport over a PhD tells you how strenuous they see education in Ghana.
A Dutch passport is not just acquired in a day. You may have to go through the same number of years a PhD student will go through to acquire their PhD.
But to what point after all the stress? What opportunities do you gain after the stress? Update your profile on LinkedIn and search for a job?
The Ghanaian employer is typically scared of employing a PhD holder because he believes he would take more for a job that a masters or a degree holder can “manage”.
Ask degree nurses in Ghana how they remain unemployed after school because employers would go for diploma nurses and pay lower than the degree nurse who would come ask for more because of her degree for the same job.
A PhD or a masters sef may have been able to compete with a Dutch passport during Nkrumah dems demma time because opportunities abounded.
Nowadays, it is saturated all over and has close to no significance compared with a Dutch passport.
But compare a Dutch Passport with being a Minister of Sanitation in Ghana and it wouldn’t really be a landslide victory for the Dutch Passport. That will tell you where this fvcked up country is headed.
Education doesn’t seem to have the key to success anymore in Ghana, sadly.
Sorry, I didn’t intend this to be long. 🌚
