Fuel prices to remain stable throughout April

Fuel prices will remain stable throughout the month of April, the Institute for Energy Security (IES) has projected. Mr Fritz Moses, Research Analyst, IES, attributed the projected stability in prices to the drop in prices of petroleum products on the international market in the last pricing window. He gave the projection in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, In its review of the April 2022 First Pricing Window (April 1 to April 16, 2022), the IES found that Brent Crude price stayed mostly below the $110 per barrel mark, closing the window below $100 per barrel. “For the window under assessment, prices reached an average of $104.98 per barrel, representing a 3.03 per cent reduction over the previous window’s average price of $108.27 per barrel,” it said.

🚩The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) says despite the pandemic and its associated constraints, trade between Ghana and Brazil in 2020 amounted to approximately $267 million. Mr. Yaw Amoateng Afriyie, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GIPC, said according to records, the total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from Brazil to Ghana since 1994 was valued at approximately $334 million. Mr. Afriyie was speaking at the third Brazilian Multi-Sectoral Trade Mission to Ghana organised by CECIEx and Apex Brasil, through the Brazilian Suppliers Project with support from the Sao Paulo Chamber of Commerce and The Embassy of Brazil in Accra.

🚩Ghana’s annual crude oil production has declined from 66.9 million barrels (bbl) in 2020 to 55.05 million bbl in 2021, representing a 17.7 per cent decrease. The production level, which is lower than the 2021 Benchmark Revenue crude oil output of 64.86 million barrels was obtained mainly from three oil fields – Jubilee field, Sankofa Gye Nyame, and TEN field. The shortfall in production was, however, compensated for with the general rise in crude oil prices on the world market as the total petroleum revenues increased by 17.5 per cent from US$666 million in 2020 to US$783 million in 2021. This was captured in the 2021 annual report released by the Public Interest Accountability Committee (PIAC) on the management and use of petroleum revenue for the year under review.

🚩The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) is set to roll out an irrigation programme for farmers in cocoa-growing areas to ensure an all-year round water supply for their farmlands in a bid to increase yield. The move has become necessary following drought in those areas, resulting in the withering of most of the cocoa trees, stunted growth, and low yield. Mr Joseph Boahene Aidoo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of COCOBOD, announced this to cocoa farmers at Kumikrom in the Western North Region at the start of a two-day working tour to some farms. The tour afforded the CEO and other officials the opportunity to inspect rehabilitation works by the farmers.

🚩United Kingdom’s International Trade Secretary, Anne-Marie Travelyan, has announced a new UK government program to support the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Through the AfCFTA Support Programme, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office will provide up to a £35 million to provide trade facilitation and trade policy support to the AfCFTA Secretariat and member states through Trademark East Africa, Overseas Development Institute, and other development partners. The fund will go to support AfCFTA negotiations and agreement implementation making it easier for nations across Africa to trade and grow together.
