Hiplife rapper Barima Sidney who always speaks his mind freely on political issues has congratulated president Akufo-Addo and his government for thinking of making French a second official language for Ghana.
Though some celebrities are against the motion, Barima Sidney has thrown his full support behind the government in a recent interview on Radio Central with Amansan Krakye.
“That move is a step in the right direction. Because we are surrounded by Francophone countries, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and Togo.
One thing I have realized is they are able to learn the English small and it seems we are forcing our language on them. They learn ours but we can’t learn theirs. So we have to learn the sake of those surrounding us, Ghana we are not an island, where are we taking the Twi to, it’s just for here. So far as we are not an island and we travel outside we have to learn.
We used to learn French in those days so if it’s now going to be official, I think it’s a step in the right direction. Kudos to Akufo-Addo and his government. Ghana we are not an island, we interact with other countries so we need to learn. I’m very happy something like this is going to happen”, he revealed.
When the news broke out that French is going to be used as 2nd official language many people spoke against it and suggested that local language should be used. Okyeame Kwame was part of the celebrities that spoke against the agenda but eShun, Barima Sidney and others also think otherwise.
