Manchester United duo Edison Cavani and Marcus Rashford are set to miss the club’s first-leg round of 16 Europa League encounter against AC Milan this evening.
Over the weekend, Marcus Rashford sustained an ankle injury during Manchester United’s 2-0 win against Manchester City in the Premier League at the Etihad Sports Stadium. Shortly after picking up the knock, Rashford was replaced towards the end of the game.
In the case of Edison Cavani, the Uruguayan is in doubt after he suffered a setback in training, picking up a niggle that ruled him out of United’s derby victory over Man City on Sunday.
De Gea is also set to miss out as Dean Henderson will again play ahead of the Spaniard who is absent due to personal reasons. The likes of Donny Van De Beek, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Phil Jones remain absent due to injury problems.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the clash in Milan, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said, “I’m not sure if anyone will be back, no.”
“David (De Gea) is not available. Donny (Van De Beek), no. Paul (Pogba), no. Edinson, maybe but probably not. Juan (Mata), no. And Marcus maybe but probably not.
“So, similar to Sunday but maybe we’ve lost Marcus. I don’t think he’ll be available for tomorrow. He’s still getting treatment but he didn’t join in the training today.
“Even though I’m normally a very optimistic guy, I still think he’s out of tomorrow night and probably a doubt for the weekend.”
On the other hand, AC Milan share in the same spoils as United with a number of injury problems which will cause the likes Theo Hernandez, Ismael Bennacer, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ante Rebic and Mario Mandzukic to miss out on the game.
That said, Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be fit to face his former club because of a thigh problem.
However, Diogo Dalot, who is on loan at the San Siro from United, is eligible to play against his parent club.
