The Member of Parliament for South Tongu constituency Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome has urged the EC to emulate other regions after detecting discrepancies in the ongoing Voter registration exercise in his constituency.
In a post on his Facebook page, Hon Woyome expressed worried about some of the centers where only people got registered since the entire process started till the second day.
He posted;
Few days into the voter registration exercise, i toured the District Electoral Commission’s office and Amexormekofe, two, among the designated centres for the registration exercise.
From my observation, only two people went through the registration successfully as at day two of the exercise. When I enquired of the reason, faulty equipment was given as an excuse. This is very unfortunate, I must confess. It appears there is a deliberate attempt to deny people in my constituency and in the Volta Region as a whole from registering, all in an attempt to disenfranchise our people in the forthcoming election.
I call on the EC to quickly do the needful to enable all those qualified to register to avoid any confusion.
I also had a fruitful meeting with all the Basic School headteachers and the management of the four senior high schools in my constituency. We deliberated on how to convey the students who have attained 18 years and above to the registration centers.
