South Tongu MP pays Sogakope GES’s ECG arrears worth Gh¢3,000.00

MP for South Tongu, Hon Kobena Mensah Woyome has cleared part of the debt GES- Sogakope has accrued. Though this is not his responsibility, the generous man stepped in when ECG disconnected the office.

The kindhearted Lawmaker made a payment of GH¢3,000.00 to the Education Directorate to defray part of the electricity bills owed by the Education Directorate in order for ECG to reconnect the GES office.

On Friday, 8th April, 2022, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) served a notice of disconnection to some State Owned and Private Institutions which deliberately refused to settle bills of power consumed.

According to ECG, about thirty-five (35) institutions will be disconnected for their inability to settle over GH¢70m debt despite several reminders and cautions.

Our checks have confirmed that, some Ghana Education Service (GES) offices were part of the State Owned Institutions that refused to settle the cost of power consumed.

Though, ECG in a statement, gave a three-day ultimatum to the institutions to settle their outstanding debts as early as possible to avoid power distraction, the South Tongu Education Directorate under GES, Kotoka International Airport, Parliament of Ghana among others could not meet the deadline.

This situation has compelled the Sogakope Electricity Company of Ghana to take off power of the South Tongu GES office.

The Education Directorate has no option than to appeal to the office of the Member of Parliament to help defray the cost of the power consumed by the office.

In responding to the call, the South Tongu MP Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome quickly released GH¢3,000.00 to clear part of the outstanding bills.

Coverghana.com.gh checks from the office of the MP revealed that, this is not the first time Kobena Mensah Woyome has paid electricity bills of the GES office.
