Ghana’s Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh says plans are underway the introduction of a special National Service for one year for Ghana’s Senior High School leavers if COVID-19 persists.

This he made public while speaking exclusively to Paul Adom Otchere on an Accra-based Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana on Tuesday night.

He detailed that the special National Service for the SHS leavers will become necessary if schools remain shut for an extended period because of COVID-19.

The Minister cited that during the O-A Level periods, anytime there was an “Aluta” that disrupted the academic calendar, the government introduced National Service to cater for the disruption.

Meanwhile, President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, announced the suspension of all educational activities in the country until further notice after the country recorded confirmed coronavirus cases.
