Ghana’s all-time top scorer Asamoah Gyan has recounted the incident in the 2010 World Cup against Uruguay where he missed a crucial penalty that could have sent Ghana into the semi-finals of the tournament.

Asamoah Gyan became the topic after he hit the post in the dying minute of the match after Diego Forlan canceled Sulley Muntari’s first-half strike.

For the first time, the legendary player has finally opened up on how it felt like. He insisted that Stephen Appiah who was the captain encouraged him to take another penalty when they went in to shoot out. Gyan also revealed that he would have stopped playing football if he hadn’t scored during the main shoot out.

“If i hadn’t play in the shoot out, i would’ve stopped playing because i needed that chance to redeem myself. And even though i was sad, it was Stephen Appiah who encouraged me that he knows I am good at it hence I must take it”.

“As for the comments, it’s our loved ones that draw our attention to them. It gets to us sometimes and if there was betting that time, I would have died. I’m imagining why people who bet on Ghana will feel”, he added
