The Ghana Police Service has given the strongest warning yet that any unauthorized security arrangement made for Saturday’s presidential primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not be tolerated.

The Service has, therefore, urged party executives, delegates, sympathizers and the public, in general, to cooperate with its officers for successful polls.

The NDC will on Saturday elect its candidate for the 2020 presidential elections from seven aspirants.

Voting centres will be mounted in the 275 constituencies across the country for the exercise.

A statement from the police said they will be in charge.

“Police shall be in-charge of security,” the statement on Thursday stressed. “Any unauthorized security arrangement shall not be tolerated.”

Signed by the Director-General of Public Affairs, ACP David Eklu, the statement said any persons carrying offensive weapons including gun, knives and machetes “shall be apprehended and made to face the full rigours of the law”.

“No motorbike whether registered and unregistered shall be allowed anywhere close to a voting or collation centre.”

On Wednesday, the Service’s Ashanti Regional Command warned motor riders not to attempt coming near the voting centres on Saturday.

The warning came just two days after some unknown men carried out a drive-by shooting while some national executives of the NDC were meeting regional executives over modalities for Saturday’s all-important exercise.

One person was killed.

Faces of wanted persons have been published by the police, since then.
