The Minority in Parliament has called for the immediate resignation of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The caucus also wants the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to carry out a swoop at the Christianborg Castle, Osu and arrest leaders and members of a pro-government group De-Eye Group.

This comes in the wake of a documentary produced by journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni for Joy News.

The said documentary reveals how some men are being trained by De-Eye Group at the former seat of government.

“Perhaps even more mind-blowing is the revelation that De-Eye Group militia has been allocated two offices at the Castle where it uses one as a secretariat and the other as an office for Commander Nana Wireko Addo,” the Minority told journalists in Accra on Friday.

“For a Government that is yet to provide complete office accommodation for all of its elephant-sized 111 Ministers – the De-Eye Group Militia must be a very special organization dear to the hearts of those who matter at the very top echelons.”

‘Safe haven’

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) members of Parliament claim by the revelations, the president has shown a marked departure from his public pronouncements against political party vigilantism.

“President Akufo-Addo has so far shown that apart from class acts which easily makes him a candidate for an Oscar, there is no sincerity and genuineness on his part to uproot the menace of party militias.

“On the contrary, it has now emerged that President Akufo-Addo is himself a War Lord as Prof. Henrietta Mensah Bonsu has appropriately advised on how to describe persons who sponsor and house party militias.”

Aside the call on the IGP for the investigations, the Minority also demands probe into how a facility owned and managed by the state has become a “safe haven” for a group affiliated to the NPP.

They called not only on government to staunch the activities of the group but also on civil society organisations and faith-based organisations to involve themselves in the dialogue proposed by the president.

“The Minority decries the creeping culture of intolerance and vicious attacks perpetrated by officials and agents of the government on innocent journalists whose only crime is that they are pursuing their profession without fear or favour.

“We condemn this negative culture which Anas Aremeyaw Anas has been subjected to in recent days and caution that Manasseh Azure Awuni should not be made to suffer the same predicament following this world-class courageous and impressive undercover reportage.”
