Ghanaian rappers, Sarkodie including his wife, Pappy Kojo, D- Black, and a few others are likely to be disenfranchised from the new voters’ register.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) under the able leadership of Madam Jean Mensa has set Tuesday, June 30, to compile a new voters’ register for the presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, the exercise will be held at all registration centers and district offices of the EC throughout the country.

However, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his 10th coronavirus address to the nation has extended the closure of the airport and borders without considering Ghanaians stuck abroad.

Now, with the Electoral Commission all poised to start the new voters’ registration exercise on June 30 which by then the borders will still remain closed with tight security monitor.

What happens to the other Ghanaians stuck abroad?

The implication is that, Ghanaians stuck abroad are likely to stay where they are till the exercise is over before the President will open the airports and borders.

Meaning, Sarkodie together with his wife, Tracy, and their daughter Titi will still be stuck abroad with no hopes of being to register for the new voters’ identity card.

Other Ghanaian musicians including Pappy Kojo who is also stuck in Italy and D- Black also stuck somewhere far from Ghana.

What about Ghanaians who are stuck in Nigeria, Togo, Niger, Germany? The question is now, will president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo consider opening the borders and airport?

Mind you, the president and his government has always thought that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is likely to smuggle non Ghanaians from neighboring countries especially Togo to come and also register for the new voter identity card.

Ah well, it is probably too early to jump into conclusion. Let us wait and see how the game is being played.

This is just an opinion shared by Ghanaian Journalist and Pollster Frederick Noamesi.
